7th Annual Latino Parenting Conference
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey will present its 7th Annual Latino Parenting Conference on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at its office in the Roebling Market (635 South Clinton Avenue). This year’s theme is “Fatherhood in the Latino Community: Breaking the Stereotypes.”
CHS of NJ is pleased to welcome Dr. David T. Abalos as the Keynote Speaker for the day. Dr. Abalos is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary and author of The Latino Male: A Radical Redefinition and several additional works that focus on Latino community and family. He has received awards and honors including Excellence in Scholarship Dedicated to Latino Men in New Jersey, NJ Professor of the Year (1987-88) and a National Gold Medal as one of the top ten university professors in the nation.
Master of Ceremonies, Luis Del Orbe (Governor’s Hispanic Fellows Program) will moderate as selected panelists from the community share their views and focus upon the positive cultural influences Latino parents bring to their families and the greater community. The day’s program is packed with engaging dialogue, workshops including an activity sponsored by Home Depot and a special performance by Chambers Dance Studio. Community partners have been invited to share information and resources with attendees, and on-site health screenings for participants will be offered by Capital Health.
This conference will be conducted exclusively in Spanish. The community is invited to attend, and advance registration is required due to limited space. For more information or to register now, please contact Yashira Tirado-Rosario at 609-695-6274.
