DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIM ADVOCATE (part-time)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Reports to: Community Center Manager and Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Serves a case load of up to ten victims of domestic violence in a program serving low-income, Spanish-speaking first generation immigrants with minors in their care
Builds partnerships and networks with community-based agencies, law enforcement, courts, social and health service providers to facilitate victims access to needed resources
· Assists victims with application processes, makes appointments, provides transportation, accompanies to interviews and hearings, acts as advocate and informal interpreter of adult and youth victims
· Records, prepares and files timely reports of all interactions as directed
· Explains and establishes mutual expectations and conducts review sessions with clients
· Coordinates logistics of support group meetings, arranging transportation, refreshments, materials, etc. and co-facilitates discussions
· Maintains individual client case files
· Helps prepare a quarterly report to the LALDEF Executive Director
· Participates in on-going training and team supervision with Licensed Clinical Social Worker
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· A Bachelors degree (or equivalent education in a foreign country) in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or a related field; we will consider applicants with a substantial amount of college level credits but who have not graduated yet. Graduate level course work highly desirable.
· Fully conversant in English and Spanish
· Familiarity with the use of Word and Excel
· Able to dedicate an average of 5-10 hours per week with a flexible schedule.
· Have a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record, and own an insured vehicle
· Prior experience with abused/battered victim counselling or crisis intervention
· Immigrant survivors of domestic violence who have fully recovered are strongly encouraged to apply
